Aside from the tone, treatment and style, the creative meeting is a venue to air out the elements that you prefer to include in the video: Do you want to include old or archived photos, stock photos and footage, product demos, testimonials, interviews with resource persons, animation, or specific musical score?
Knowing all these and understanding the message and objective of your video project will help the creative team come up with a concept for your video presentation. The concept may likely come from the meeting with you, our client, and if you like it, you can approve it right then and speed up the process.
However, whether or not a plausible concept comes out of this creative meeting, chances are great that the scriptwriter would come up with something that you would totally like and is in line with your objectives.
Once the initial concept is approved, a storyboard will be drawn and a draft script will be written. Meanwhile, the rest of the members of the production team – the director, and the producer(s) – will be meeting and planning about the other elements needed to complete your video project.
It is during pre-production that you determine the types of equipment you need. Aside from the basic camera and lights, there might be other equipment that would be essential in producing a good quality video such as green screen setup, or a teleprompter. The final concept and the draft script will also determine the location requirements of the video project as well as the props and on-camera or voice over talents necessary – all of these concerns have to be addressed and resolved during pre-prodcution. A production schedule will be drawn up to help keep everybody on track and in line with your own schedule and requirements.
In essence, pre-production is all about planning the details well to make the whole come together during production and post-production. It is essential and though it requires much time and effort, becomes worthwhile in that it spares you the hassle and worry of a poorly-planned production so that you and the video production company you decide to hire are able to come up with an excellent video.
