In these blogs, we’ve talked about the various people that make up the production team and we keep mentioning the producer. You may be wondering, what it is exactly, that the producer does. Well, basically, everything.
The producer is involved in the entire video production process from Day 1. That’s right. So to give you an idea, let’s say you hired a video production company (preferably ours) to do an audio-visual presentation or a marketing or promotional video for your company.
What usually happens is that we start with the process known as pre-production. All the planning and conceptualization goes on at this stage and the producer is present both for input and awareness. To let him know what the project is all about.
This makes the producer’s job a lot easier. Knowing about the project from day one, lets the producer know exactly what his job entails. Does he need to coordinate locations? Comply with shooting permits? Book the venue? How many people need to be hired?
Your company’s video may require on-camera talents or a full-crew involving several videographers, grips, production designers, assistants, security, etc. It’s the producer’s job to contact all these people, book them and make sure they show up on time. Everyone who needs to do some work even before the cameras start rolling needs to be contacted, briefed, and kept tabs on just to make sure everything goes smoothly. Guess whose job it is to do this? Right! The ever-reliable clipboard-toting producer.
